Victor dE SOUZA – extra-terrestrial look!

Lastly, we rushed off to Victor dE SOUZA – Victor is known for doing very out-there makeup AND nails. This season, we created larger than life nails that started at the first digit of the finger and were washed with Copper Shimmer for a space-age alien look. Makeup was albino white (no eyebrows!) and models wore contacts which made eyes look big and BLACK. Hair was a tight chignon on the top of the head that drew more attention to models’ extra-terrestrial look. Paired with Victor’s fantastic, Audrey-Hepburn-inspired cuts and delicately draped dresses, the runway embraced strange beauty. The show was even Jessica Biel-approved – she watched and even mouthed “wow” at one particularly fabulous piece. Brava to Victor, our creative master!

Now it’s back to sunny, San Diego – what a fun week it has been! Only seven more months until next season…

Milly – ’60s French school girl

This season, Milly was all about embodying the spirit of a ‘60s French (Paris, to be exact) school girl – with micro-minis, bold, bright hued tights, and cute, cropped peacoats. Nails were shaped short and tailored, and painted with deep red Dark Ruby for a youthful manicure. Make up was dewy and natural, and hair was swept back in an effortless side pony-tail. Tres chic!

3.1 Phillip Lim – seventies style simplicity

At 3.1 Phillip Lim, it was all about seventies style simplicity! We created an uptown Debbie Harry manicure using exaggerated pink Creamy Cameo; with Gold Chrome French pedicure tips on toes for a new spin on a classic look! Make up was smoky and sexy on eyes, with a subtle pink hue on lips.Hair had CRAZY volume with gorgeous barrel curls and va-va-voom feathering reminiscent ofCharlie’s Angels. The runway offered gorgeous camel coats, luxe silks, animal prints and – trousers! Must buy a pair stat!

Douglas Hannant – ‘Avatar’ hair!

Last day of shows for us at Fashion Week! The week flew by at the speed of light…

At Douglas Hannant, clothes were futuristic, chic and urban. The hair was pinned up in messy curls on the top of the head, with bright neon streaked strands cascading down the nape of the neck. Once again, hair was inspired by Avatar (Note to self: see this movie!!), and Hannant wanted models to look tribal and wild. Make up was all about dramatic eyes – bright green shadow across the entire lid under the brow, and beyond for a bold look to compliment intense prints and patterns on the runway. Success! Nails were a tortoise shell pattern achieved by dabbing (not painting) Dark Ruby and Copper Shimmer on for a textured, multi-tonal effect. Toes were also decked out in Dark Ruby, the “it” shade of the season. Simply gorgeous on the runway!

The Blonds – jungle-fever CND nails!

Speaking of performance, The Blonds, masters of drama, theatrics and crazy-embellished corsets, wanted equally impactful nails for their jungle-fever show! CND created wild nails in zebra prints using Blackjack and Brilliant White, dazzling ruby red with Scarlet Letter, and marbleized Gold Chrome in order to provide an extension of the models’ larger than life personalities. Phillipe Blond, the fiercest designer on the runway, had his nails done in Scarlet Letter with lots and lots of glitter on top, and opened the show by walking the catwalk in a gorilla suit! Now I’ve seen it all!

ThreeASFOUR – extreme artistry

ThreeASFOUR was like a trip to the MoMa (Modern Museum of Art, for all of you non-New Yorkers)! From the crimped, tied and molded hair held in place with a full face nude fishnet, and exotic, dark lined eyes with exotic tails wisping up and outward. The clothes were all hand-made and sewn to the models’ bodies backstage…and the careful thought and extreme artistry was a feast for the senses. The nails embodied the Turkish ‘evil eye’ in shades of copper, emerald and blue sapphire in the background with a black ‘pupil’ matted down for a rubber-like finish. The nails complemented the curves of the clothes and the sheen in the magical fabrics. The show was performance art as only ThreeASFOUR can do!!! Bravo!

Marc by Marc Jacobs – bad weather hair!

What a totally different scene at Marc by Marc Jacobs in comparison with yesterday’s Marc Jacobs show! First of all, it was snowing…and we aren’t just talking flurries. A hot mess getting there, but it was a blessing in disguise for the hair team because models would run in with hair matted and wet from the weather and the hair stylists pronounced the look ‘perfect!’ Both guys and girls were in the show, and it was truly hard to tell the difference…both were equally angular and gorgeous. Faces were powdered and nails were polished with one coat of Rose Water for a tinted moisturizer look and finished off with one coat of Speedey. Casual, fun, and androgynous, the mood was as casual as the clothes.Mar

Max Azria – star-studded affair

Max Azria was a star-studded affair and press crush backstage. The minimalist sleek jersey dresses and butter-soft leathers in grey, taupe, oatmeal and black are clothes that accentuate the female form to a tee. The nails were as soft and sumptuous as the clothes; with meticulous manis and a stroke of runway-famed Putty. Seal with Speedey and you have the low maintenance perfect finish for everyday elegance.

Marc Jacobs! – beauty in the details

….the highlight of the week has arrived! It’s the Marc Jacobs show.

Marc is legendary for his attention to detail and his eye for color. Hours were spent the day before layering, mixing and blending tones of grey, to mushroom to lavender-taupe until at last, 5 shades were selected by Marc himself! Roxanne worked with Elisa Ferri, long time nail professional for Marc and supported her with CND Colour & Effects and the top notch CND team backstage. The color range is now coined as ‘greige’ and each color was specified for each of 50 models walking the show. Want the look now? Turn to Putty with Lavender Sparkle, Asphalt with Copper Shimmer or Chocolate Milk in high shine. The show included day and evening looks in all shades of gray, accented with yellow ostrich shoes, mushroom fur bags and grayed-down lilac ankle socks and pumps. It’s all about the detail…the the show was somewhere over the rainbow!

The day is done and we’re off for a late downtown dinner at Babbo, Mario Batali’s famed restaurant. Yum…we’ve definitely earned this meal!!!

Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation – Fall 2010 winners!

ECCO Domani Fashion Foundation announced their Fall 2010 winners and featured their brilliance in a collaborative event on the runway! Six designers were honored, including Altuzarra, The Blonds, Organic, Prabal Gurung, Salvor Projects and Siki Im. All the models wore an industrial texturized neutral, created with 2 coats of Putty, one coat of Sapphire Sparkle and Super Matte Top Coat for a clean, modern mannequin hand. We congratulate all the winners and thank them for including nails, the finishing and all important detail!
